This noble owl looks like a fairy tale hero with a heart of many black spots on its white plumes.
This owl lives in the woods of Southeast and South Asia. In Sri Lanka, it is called ulama, which means demon bird. It is a bird that is active at night and spends the day veiled behind trees.
The owl becomes active at dusk when it feeds on reptiles, small animals, birds. It is an attacking and very bold owl that sits at the top of the nutritional chain of local birds.
The nest building season is from December to March and it nests in tree crevices. This owl is rare and Birdlife International has listed it as ‘secondary concern’
