The ‘Rocket Man’ singer praised Madonna for pausing her ‘Celebration’ tour to raise awareness of the millions of lives lost to AIDS.
Elton John demonstrated that there are no problems between him and Madonna. On Thursday, October 26, the 76-year-old classic rocker shared some nice words on Instagram for Madonna, 65, and her “Celebration” tour. Elton specifically praised the “Material Girl” singer at a segment of her performance where she pays tribute to the millions of people who have died from AIDS.
In the picture, Madonna takes center stage while images of people who lost their lives to AIDS are displayed on screens behind her. Elton expressed gratitude to the musician for her contribution to AIDS awareness. “We’re deeply moved by the heartfelt tribute from Madonna during her Celebration Tour performance of ‘Live to Tell’, honouring the 40.4 million people we’ve lost to AIDS,” in the caption, he writes. “Thank you, Madonna, for your advocacy and compassion, and for raising important awareness of the ongoing mission to end AIDS.”
Elton went on to stress the significance of keeping HIV and AIDS awareness growing. “With 39 million people living with HIV today, 9.4 million of whom are not currently on life-saving treatment, we must keep using our voices and platforms to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live full and healthy lives,” he penned.
Compared to some of Elton’s earlier remarks about the pop icon over the years, the message is highly favorable. He confronted Madonna during the 2004 Q Awards show. “Madonna, best f**king live act? F**k off. Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that. Everyone who lip-syncs in public on stage when you pay £75 to see them should be shot,” he stated through Pink News.
In an interview with Extra in 2013, Elton disclosed that he and Madge had called it quits on their public spats, following several years of back-and-forth. He claimed that he had written her a message and that they had crossed paths at the same French eatery. He added that Madonna was prepared to move on after accepting his apology. “I apologized profusely,” said he. “That’s over and done with.”
