After the “shocking” death of actor Matthew Perry on Saturday, Adele paused her Las Vegas presentation to honor the late man.
“I’ll remember that character for the rest of my life,” In a video uploaded to X on Saturday night, the “Hello” singer remarked of the “Friends” star, who portrayed Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom.
Perry seemingly drowned to death in his Los Angeles home. 54 was his age.
The singer of “Someone Like You,” who has already disclosed that she abstains from drinking, also touched on Perry’s battle with drug and alcohol addiction.
“He was so open with his struggles with addiction and sobriety,” speaking to the assembly. “Which I think is incredibly, incredibly brave.”
Though Adele, 35, only knew Perry from his days on TV, she lauded the late comic for bringing “so much joy” into her life.
She also mentioned how one of her pals would always perform “the best Chandler impression,” and how Perry’s persona had been a mainstay in her early years.
And he would always do it to make us chuckle. He would simply pretend to be Chandler if any of us were having a rough day or were down, the singer recalled.
“And yeah, I just wanna say how much I love what he did for all of us. Especially what he did for me,” Adele concluded by saying.
“One of the best comedic characters of all time. And hopefully, now, he can rest in peace.”
Charlie Puth also paused his performance in Melbourne, Australia, to honor the actor.
In a video uploaded to TikTok, the singer of “We Don’t Talk Anymore” led an enthusiastic audience in singing the “Friends” theme song while he played the piano. He then cut to a brief clip of his heartbreaking song “See You Again.”
Since the actor’s unexpected death became public on Saturday, a number of celebrities, admirers, and friends have responded.
Perry’s cause of death is still mostly unknown, but according to TMZ on Saturday, there was no suspicion of foul play.
Law enforcement sources revealed to the newspaper on Sunday that a number of prescription prescriptions, including COPD, antidepressants, and anxiety relievers, had been discovered at Perry’s residence. But there were no illegal narcotics in his house.
There has been no official report on the cause of death.
