Celine Dion appeared in the public eye for the first time after a long break

On Monday night, the singer went to a hockey game in Las Vegas.
It’s the first time Celine Dion has appeared in public in almost four years.

According to pictures from the evening, the iconic singer, 55, who disclosed late last year that she was given a stiff-person syndrome diagnosis, went to an NHL hockey game on Monday night.

Wearing a white, quilted vest over a tan sweater, Céline entered the locker room to meet her hometown team after seeing the Vegas Golden Knights play the Montreal Canadiens at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The singer of “My Heart Will Go On” was observed introducing herself to teammates and striking up photos with her twins, 13-year-old Eddy and Nelson, as well as her 22-year-old son René-Charles.

With Céline’s arm around her, the vice president of communications for the Canadiens posted pictures of herself on Instagram with the singer.

“Yesterday, we enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the game in Vegas. Thanks for being so kind, @celinedion. “Meeting you and your family has made the whole team very happy,” she wrote in French next to the pictures.
According to the Stiff Person Syndrome Foundation, Dion’s condition affects the central nervous system, primarily the brain and spinal cord. It is an uncommon and incurable neurological disorder that can produce crippling muscle spasms. The neurological condition with autoimmune features can cause symptoms like “hyper-rigidity, debilitating pain, chronic anxiety,” and muscle spasms “so violent they can dislocate joints and even break bones.” “Patients can be disabled, wheelchair-bound or bed-ridden, unable to work and care for themselves,” they add.
PEOPLE was informed in May by a source that Dion, 55, was “doing everything she can” to get well enough to perform again after she postponed her tour until April 2024.

According to an insider who spoke to PEOPLE, “It’s heartbreaking that she has had to cancel touring but she is suffering mobility and other issues from the disease disrupting her daily life.”

They went on, “She wants to perform, so she is working with doctors and doing everything she can.” She’s not given up in the slightest. She hopes to manage every aspect of this illness so she can resume singing.”
